Chatham Vineyards on Church Creek

9232 Chatham Rd, Machipongo |  chathamvineyards.com  |  757-678-5588

The only winery on Virginia's Eastern Shore, Chatham Vineyards' maritime terroir creates wines meant to be savored alongside the oysters and seafood pulled from its waters. Their award-winning Steel Chardonnay is recognized as among the best in the state.

Chatham Vineyards is owned and operated by the Wehner family at historic Chatham Farm which has been a working farm for four centuries. The vineyard and Chatham Farm are protected in perpetuity under an easement with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. This includes more than 250 acres of land including the vineyards, more than a mile of waterfront on Church Creek, and the winery grounds.

Jon Wehner is a second-generation winegrower on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He learned about grape growing from his parents who operated Great Falls Vineyard in Great Falls, Virginia for over thirty years. He and his wife, Mills, and their three children own and operate the vineyard and winery.

Virginia's Eastern Shore is an enchanting place of family farms, small towns and waterside villages located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. Watermen still work the tides and farmers plow the fields trailed by sea gulls.

Fresh seafood, history, ecotourism and open space abound on "the Shore". In addition, it is a registered American Viticultural Area (AVA) and is identified as such on our wine labels.
